CBD Oil for Pain management is not a new topic yet there remains controversy over whether or not it is safe and effective and of course, whether or not it is legal!
CBD Oil Facts
CBD is derived from either Hemp or Marijuana. Both hemp and marijuana are from the same genus and species (cannabis sativa). The characteristic of having low THC is the single difference that most rely on to distinguish industrial hemp from marijuana. CBD taken from hemp and marijuana is the exact same compound.
Hemp can produce the exact same amount of cannabinoids as marijuana and depending on the farming methods, Hemp can produce more CBD than marijuana plants.

It has possible side-effects including; dry mouth, diarrhea, reduced appetite, low blood pressure, drowsiness and fatigue.
You cannot overdose; well you can take an awful lot of the stuff and not experience any health issues – as several studies have reported.
Most people do not experience any side-effects or the effect is small enough to be well-tolerated.
Low doses can be just as effective, if not more effective than high doses.

Is it Legal?
Again, the answer is; it depends! It depends on a number of factors including whether the product is derived from Hemp or Marijuana. The Farm Act of 2018 opened the door to Hemp-based CBD to be legal in all 50 states, at a federal level. State and local laws may still throw up roadblocks and of course, some theme parks may have people “arrested”.

My personal story of chronic pain management with CBD Oil
Over 20 years ago I fell off a roof and landed on the back of my neck, feet straight up in the air. I am one of those people who have little to no sense of up/down/right/left when in a falling situation. So, I was not able to right myself or maneuver in a way to land better.
To make matters worse, for the last 15 years I’ve had a desk job working on computers; and by work I mean a lot of emails and conference calls; from corporate office to field office to now; home office. Hunched over the keyboard, shoulders rolled forward; all the bad posture moves.
I have seen many doctors and specialists and chiropractors. I did PT and I got the pain management shots in the neck. I had 2 MRIs and other scans. Doctors all told me there was nothing wrong – it was only after a few years of this that I came to understand what they meant. What they meant was – ‘there is nothing that I personally do in my practice that would do you any good.’

I found a naturopath (he did a combination of massage, chakra points, and chiropractic – but mostly I just lied on the table for an hour).
I found a book called Fix Your Own Pain Without Drugs or Surgery by Jolie Bookspan. The stretches made sense and did provide results. I don’t receive compensation if you buy the book, this is a straight-up recommendation.
I got a standing desk and better chair, getting as ergonomic as possible. I stand for an hour or two a day and sit the rest of the time. I started using a headset instead of speakerphone at work. For some dumb reason I habitually lean forward to talk into the speakerphone. It works fine if you sit upright, why do I keep finding myself hunched over it??? I figured if I can’t train myself to understand that it’s OK to sit back and talk on a speakerphone, then I need to solve it a different way – hence the headset.
I got a Fitbit and started a low-impact exercise routine, aka walking (gettin’ my steps). I figured strengthening support muscles should help, so I added shoulder rolls and similar moves while on conference calls at work. I hope they don’t start video conferencing anytime soon!
All that above over several years time. Where am I at now, at the time of this writing? I am mostly fine; paying attention to posture, taking breaks from the computer, stretches from the book mentioned above (yes, I still do them to this day, years after learning them), pacing myself doing chores to avoid further injury (we live on acreage and there is no shortage of building / repairing / lifting & transporting materials year-round).
All is mostly fine until bedtime. My lower back and sometimes my neck will be done for the day – meaning they had enough and can’t take it anymore, and sleep is difficult with the pain. I take Aleve almost every night and that helps.
I would like to have more relief from pain day and night and not rely on Aleve. The desire for pain management and some other health-related desires led me to try CBD Oil for myself.
CBD Oil is something I am adding to the current routine; I do not expect it to cure me or replace stretches, strength training, walking, trying to maintain good posture, etc. I do hope I can stop taking pain medication every day.
